Don’t Fall Victim to Phishing

Like most reputable companies, Magnolia Federal Credit Union does not solicit private account information via email. These requests may be attempts to gather information that could be used to defraud you by gaining access to your personal accounts. Should you receive one that claims to be from Magnolia Federal Credit Union, please forward it to info@magfedcu.org.

These e-mail requests are called “phishing.” People who send them - “phishers” - use what seem to be plausible reasons to convince people to visit their web sites and input personal information. Some of their schemes include:

* Promotions, giveaways or surveys
* Urgent notifications of account suspensions because of “suspicious” activity
* Account upgrades, violations or maintenance
* Claims they’re investigating hacking into your account
* Claims of eBay or PayPal scams that have affected your account
* Auction payments
* Requests for money transfers
* Offers of advice
* Warnings of “phishing” attempts that require your help
* Fraud donation e-mails requiring that you give, verify or provide more information
* Chain letters with messages of encouragement or pictures
* E-mails that request your user name and password for various accounts you may have
* Financial institution requests for any information

Don’t let the phishers fool you!

Any of these may be attempts to gain access to personal financial information that could be used to steal from you. Magnolia Federal Credit Union will never send you an e-mail asking you for this personal information online. If you receive one, forward it to info@magfedcu.org.

In addition, you should be wary of any e-mail with an attachment coming from an address you aren’t sure of. The attachment could contain a virus. If you don’t know who sent you the email, always delete it!

People wanting to steal from you can be very convincing. You should be wary and not fall for their schemes.

If you ever have questions regarding access to your account, please call us at 601-977-8300 or 1-800-997-7919.
